Biographical or historical data
Martin graduated from RPI with high honors in 1856. For a year he remained at RPI as a teacher in Geodesy and Mathematics, but declined to stay on as a professor. After a variety of engineering positions, he entered the employ of New York and Brooklyn Bridge Co. as Principal Assistant Engineer and Superintendent under Washington A. Roebling in 1870. By the time of his death in 1903, he has completed 33 years of activity on behalf of the Brooklyn Bridge and more then 40 years of professional service on public works in Brooklyn.
